Mogens Herman Hansen (1940-2024) var dr.phil. og lektor emeritus i oldgræsk ved SAXO-Instituttet, Københavns Universitet. Han er verdenskendt som specialist i demokratiet og dets historie og har udgivet adskillige bøger om emnet, heriblandt [_Demokrati som styreform og som ideologi_](/titles/9788763534932) (2010), der i november 2011 blev tildelt H.O. Lange-prisen for fremragende forskningsformidling. Han var medlem af British Academy og Videnskabernes Selskab og var leder af Poliscentret ved Københavns Universitet 1993-2005.
