The series Opuscula presents studies on older Icelandic, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish and Faroese philology, as well as articles dealing with manuscripts in other languages which are part of the Arnamagnæan Collection.
The present volume, the twentieth to appear in the series, contains a study of the transmission of “Recension 2” of Mágus saga jarls by Ralph O’Connor, an edition and translation of Ormars þáttur Framarsonar by Katarzyna Kapitan and Philip Lavender, an edition by Tom Lorenz of a fragment of a Middle Low German translation of St Birgitta’s Revelationes Celestes preserved in AM 79 II α 8vo, a study by Stefan Drechsler of medieval Norwegian law manuscripts and an edition of J.H. Djurhuus’ Gøtuskeggja kvæði by Seán Vrieland and Giada Campana.
Seán Vrieland has also provided two short pieces, one on ballad materials written by V.U. Hammershaimb held in the National Archives of the Faroe Islands, and the other on the dating of Faroese standard orthography. A third short piece, by Matthew Driscoll, discusses the provenance of AM 795 4to, one of the Spanish manuscripts in the Arnamagnæan Collection. The volume concludes with an index of personal and place names, and a list of cited manuscripts.
Matthew James Driscoll er professor i oldnordisk filologi ved Institut for Nordiske Studier og Sprogvidenskab på Københavns Universitet og tidligere leder af Den Arnamagnæanske Samling.
