Summary: The subject of this paper is how to present line 136a of the Homeric Hymn
to Aphrodite. I first show that the line is authentic, although recent editors almost always
delete it. Then I argue that it should be printed in the main text. Finally I demonstrate
that the number ‘137’ is philologically preferable to ‘136a.’ I conclude that if 136a
is to be deleted, we must print the main text in the following way: (see Preview pages)
