This paper focuses on the strategic choices of the speechwriter in presenting a case of poisoning as a cruel murder within marriage, using elements and patterns that allude to tragedies sharing relevant myths. In his effort to sensitize the jurors, the speechwriter creates a quasi-tragic ambiance, which constitutes the setting of his story; both the speaker and the stepmother are depicted as recognizable tragic characters and the poisoning IS described as a murder, a devilish scheme designed by the prosecutor's stepmother.
