English An attempt to discuss and measure the increasing extent of New Age literature, this article is
based on an analysis of two Norwegian Internet book shops: Bokkilden.no (which is today the
largest Internet book shop in Norway) and Tanum.no (which claims to hold the largest offer
of what it refers to as »alternative literature«). The research strategy moves along the following
steps: First, I explore the literary categories chosen by the bookshops in regard to what is
counted as »religion«, and how what from a scholarly perspective may be termed »New Age
literature« is categorized; second, I am concerned with the overall extent of »religious« and
»New Age«-literature; and third, I discuss the tendencies discovered in relation to theoretical
perspectives of secularization and sacralization.
