The series In Between States comprises edited volumes and single authored books addressing the “unconditioned,” that which is literally in between states, thus not yet fixed or formed by established learning or by institutionalized behavior, but nonetheless characterized by performing and producing effects at a cultural level. The interdisciplinary approach of performance studies, combining fields such as visual culture, cultural studies, drama and theatre studies, and anthropology, facilitates dynamic and innovative scholarship and new forms of knowledge. The themes addressed by the series are various forms of “cultural performatives” that fall between already established categories.
